Rivendell

Lord Elrond

The son of Eärendil and Elwing, and through both parents he was half-elven or Peredhil. At the end of theFirst Age, both Elrond and his brother Elros were given the choice to become Mortal or to accept the life of the Eldar. Elros chose to become mortal and Elrond chose to be of elven-kind. This same choice is later on passed down to his children Elladan, Elrohir and Arwen Evenstar. Their mother is Celebrían, the daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn.

During the Second Age, Elrond establishes the refuge of Rivendell (Imladris). It is in Rivendell that he later holds council to decide the fate of the One Ring.Elrond bears Vilya, the Ring of Sapphire, also called the Ring of Air, mightiest of the three elven rings of power, which was given to him shortly before the War of the Last Alliance by the High-elven King Gil-Galad, to whom he was Herald.

After the War of the Ring in the Third Age, Elrond, along with Galadriel, Gandalf, Bilbo and Frodo, travels West over the sea, to Valinor, where he his reunited with his wife Celebrían. By doing so he is parted forevermore from all three of his children who decide to remain in Middle-earth and become of mortal-kind.

Arwen Evenstar (Arwen Undomiel)

Daughter of Elrond Half-elven and Celebrían. Through her mother Celebrían, Arwen is the granddaughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. She was born in Rivendell during the Third Age. Of Arwen's beauty it is said that her ancestress Lúthien Tinúviel is reborn.

Because she is Peredhil (half-elven) through her father Elrond, she is given the choice to either stay in Middle-earth and remain mortal or to pass West over the sea with Elrond and remain of the Eldar.

She lived for many years in Lothlórien with her grandmother Galadriel, and it is there that she met Aragorn of the Dúnedain. Because of her love for Aragorn, she chooses to remain in Middle-earth and become his mortal wife, as her ancestress Lúthien did with her love Beren.

O mór henion I dhû:
Ely siriar, êl sila
Ai! Aníron Undómiel

From darkness I understand the night:
dreams flow, a star shines
Ah! I desire Evenstar

Elladan and Elrohir

Twin sons of Elrond and Celebrían, brothers to Arwen. Peredhil through their father, they are given the choice to become mortal or remain with the Eldar.

During the Third Age, both Elladan and Elrohir were able to successfully rescue their mother Celebrían who was attacked by Orcs while traveling across the Misty Mountains. But they never forgot the torment their mother went through while in Orc captivity and because of this they bitterly hated the Orcs.

Celebrían

Daughter of Galadriel and Celeborn. Celebrían marries Elrond Half-elven and becomes the mother of Elladan, Elrohir and Arwen Evenstar.

During the Third Age, Celebrían was attacked by Orcs while traveling across the Misty Mountains. She was successfully rescued by her twin sons Elladan and Elrohir but had received a poisoned wound while in Orc captivity. Elrond healed her wound upon her return to Rivendell but she no more had any desire to stay in Middle-earth. A year later she sailed West across the sea to Valinor, never to return.
