Battle of the Five Armies Poster and Teaser Trailer Released!

Fans of The Hobbit who attended the San Diego ComicCon (SDCC) over the weekend got a special treat in Hall H where The Hobbit panel was held. Not only were numerous cast members present, but fans got the first look at the new teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Director Sir Peter Jackson was kind enough to post it to his Facebook page so that those who were not in attendance wouldn’t miss out. It has also been added to the movie’s main web page. You can view the trailer below as well as the latest movie poster.


Director Peter Jackson Reveals Desolation of Smaug Character Posters

On Sunday, November 2, director Peter Jackson, via his Facebook page, revealed seven new character posters for the upcoming Desolation of Smaug. The posters showcase what will be the main characters in the second installment of The Hobbit films.

Lord of the Rings trilogy marathon set to kick off tomorrow

A month ago word was out that fans would once again be able to see all three Lord of the Rings films on the big screen. Tomorrow is that day – how time flies!

Regal, AMC, and Cinemark theaters in the US are showing the films which will be the full extended editions, along with a special message from director Peter Jackson to the fans. Cinemark Theaters will show the trilogy both days this weekend, whereas Regal and AMC are only showing it on Saturday.

Tickets may yet be available for purchase. The average price is $30 a person.  To see if your theater is participating check out the following links for each theater group.

Actress Cate Blanchett arrives for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey World Premiere

Last night in Wellington, New Zealand thousands of fans, elves, wizards, dwarves, hobbits, and other denizens of Middle-earth gathered outside the Embassy Theater to watch the arrival of The Hobbit‘s many stars for the film’s world premiere.

Some of those that were spotted were Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Martin Freeman (Bilbo), Hugo Weaving (Elrond), Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield), Elijah Wood (Frodo), Andy Serkis (Gollum), Barry Humphries (Goblin king), William Kircher (Bifur), Aidan Turner (Fili), Dean O’Gorman (Kili), and of course, director Sir Peter Jackson. Actor Ian McKellen, who plays wizard Gandalf, was unfortunately absent but according the The Huffington Post sent a message along saying, “I wish I were there in my spiritual home in Wellington.”

Some late arrivals to the red carpet included actors John Rhys-Davies, who played the dwarf Gimli in the Lord of the Rings films, and Evangeline Lily who plays Tauriel a warrior elf-maid of Mirkwood, a role created for The Hobbit films by director Jackson.

Fan website (TORn) which broadcasted live from the event has some nice pictures from the red carpet of the stars’ arrivals. And for those that missed their live broadcast, or those that just want to re-watch it,  a stream is provided via their website.

New Hobbit trailer to debut as part of Tolkien Week

This week is Tolkien Week, the week on the calendar that contains September 22, the date of Bilbo and Frodo’s birthdays. As part of many things happening worldwide this week to mark this special occasion, director Peter Jackson put up a short video clip via his Facebook page to let fans know that he has some special things in store. Most notably a new trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will debut Wednesday, September 19th!

Updated Hobbit scroll released in new app for films

*This post contains spoilers*

Prior to ComicCon and when the Hobbit was only going to be two films, Warner Bros. released a Hobbit scroll that featured images from the first movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. From that image we concluded that the first film would end with Bilbo and the dwarves’ escape in the wooden barrels. But now that The Hobbit is being released as three films, the ending of the first film has changed somewhat.

In this updated image released from Warner Bros. we can see the film will end with Bilbo and party being rescued from the wolves and fire by the eagles of the Misty Mountains. This means that we will not get to see any Mirkwood scenes and characters, like King Thranduil, until the second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
